The new Special Issue (Vol. 98) of the internationally renowned journal Limnologica is now available! After a special issue 2015 (Vol. 50), the freshwater pearl mussel (M. margaritifera) was allowed to play the leading role again. As guest editors we acted again with Christoph Hauer from the Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and River Research (IWA) from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU). Interrelations between the requirements of the mussel and the sediment regime of streams were in focus as well as the influence of human uses in the rivers and the catchment areas on the survival of this highly endangered species.
